The '91 championship saw Toyota line up with Andy Rouse and ex-Formula 3 driver Gary Ayles in the 'Kaliber-ICS' sponsored Carina, with the team run by Andy Rouse Engineering (ARE). Rouse had already won the championship four times, but wasn't familiar in front wheel machinery having finished the previous season in the awesome Sierra 500. The first race of the season, at Silverstone, saw him master the art when after spinning off early in the race he recovered to 5th place from a lowly 19th. In a season that was effectively dominated by BMW M3s, and Vauxhall Cavaliers, the Carina scored well and achieved some good results. Ayles was generally a mid field finisher but Rouse consistently finished in the top 10 cars, and won his first two races for Toyota at the 'double header' meeting at Donington Park, during Round 8. More podium finishes came for Rouse including another win at Brands Hatch in Round 10. The end of the season saw Toyota finish third in the manufacturers championship, and Rouse in the same position in the drivers competition. All in all a very good year for the team.Hopes were high for the next season.

Will Hoy - 1992 Toyota Carina II

Julian Bailey - 1994 Toyota Carina E

Will Hoy, the 1991 champion had joined from the Vic Lee BMW team to partner Andy Rouse.  Kaliber disappeared as sponsor of the team but was replaced by Securicor Omega and Castrol.   It proved to be an excellent start to the season with Andy Rouse and Will Hoy finishing in 1st and 2nd place respectively in the third meeting of the season at Oulton Park, following two second places in the previous rounds. Much of the early season racing was a Carina and Cavalier duel at the front of the pack, although the BMWs started to gain results later in the year. The early euphoria was shattered at Brands Hatch when both Rouse and Hoy were involved in a major accident whilst contesting the lead, resulting in both cars being badly damaged. The Carina continued to finish well however and more podium finishes arrived for both drivers. For the start of the final race of the season three drivers were in touch to win the championship, Harvey (BMW), Cleland (Vauxhall) and Hoy (Toyota). In a dramatic race, which saw all three contenders hit lots of 'action' Rouse eventually won the race for Toyota. Hoy finished 5th, behind Harvey (4th) who won the championship for BMW. Andy Rouse ended the season in 5th place to secure a superb season for the team, who finished joint 2nd in the manufacturers table, behind Vauxhall.  A third car, for former sports car driver Thorkild Thyrring, was run by the team in the first half of the season, this being the chassis that Rouse had himself raced in 1991.  Team and driver parted company after several dissappointing outings and the car re-appeared for the final few rounds of the season with Julian Bailey at the helm.

Andy Rouse had moved to pioneer the new Ford Mondeo team, so 1993 saw much change at Toyota.  TOMs (GB) took over the running of the team from ARE.  Gone too was the old shape Carina, replaced by the new UK built Carina E Gti.  Ex-Grand Prix driver Julian Bailey who had finished '92 with the team took the number two driver slot.  Both drivers scored consistently, achieving regular top five slots, but the podium visits were something of a rarity. The pair were looking to secure a 1 - 2 finish in the Grand Prix support race at Silverstone when Bailey attacked Hoy for the lead, resulting in Hoy's car ending up on it's roof. To make matters worse the damage inflicted on Bailey's Carina also forced him to retire as well.  Julian Bailey finally gave the new Carina it's first, and only, win at Knockhill a few weeks later.  The season was dominated by the Team Schnitzer BMWs and at the close of the season Toyota eventually claimed 5th place in the drivers table with Julian Bailey.  The line up was expanded for '94 with Toyota fielding a three car line up of Hoy, Bailey and Tim Sugden (Ex BMW) all driving the new left hand drive Carina. It was a bitterly dissappointing year for the Japanese team after the previous three seasons, with no wins at all. Hoy and Bailey both managed to record rare finishes in the top five but neither the drivers or the team figured in the final placings at the end of the season.Team Toyota Europe, responsible for much of Toyotas rally success were in control for 1995, with a driver line up of Bailey and Sugden. Both drivers managed to finish in the top ten positions regularly although podium finishes didn't materialise. Far too often Carinas were seen not completing race distances, and finishing early. Julian Bailey was Toyotas highest placed driver at the seasons close, in 9th place, with the team finishing in 5th place overall in what was to be their last year in the BTCC.
